Ever been sucked into a book within the first few sentences?
Publishers Weekly(PW) posted the Best First
Lines, 2016 Edition on October 21, 2016. As I was reading through them, I couldn’t
help but giggle. I also added many of the books to my TBR pile. I am the type
of reader that enjoys reading the first sentences, paragraphs, and/or
pages before fully diving into a book. I want to test the waters and make sure
it’s something I really want to read. I feel the first part of a book is almost
more important than the summary on the back or leaflet. If I am not hooked
right away, I struggle getting into the story and it takes me drastically
longer to finish the book.
Here are some of the lines PW quoted that I really enjoyed:
